In 2007-2008 the Canadian Health Coalition conducted cross-Canada hearings to collect personal stories highlighting the need for a national pharmacare program, and to receive briefs, policy positions and proposals for a public drug insurance plan and better pharmaceutical management. Hearings were successfully held in: Calgary, Charlottetown, Edmonton, Halifax, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Ottawa, Moncton, Sarnia, Saskatoon, St. John’s, Sudbury, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Victoria and Yellowknife.
Over 250 Canadians gave testimony on how prescription drug costs affect them and their loved ones. The hearings were the first time Canadians had an opportunity to share their experiences and insights regarding prescription drug costs, availability and effectiveness. Based on their testimony, the CHC released the ground-breaking report: Life Before Pharmacare (Press Release).
